Walmart is adding more solar chargers to the shelves. They are going to start carrying the whole line of Coleman solar chargers now, according ICP Solar.
From the press release…
“We are thrilled that Wal-Mart.com has decided to carry the complete line of Coleman® solar chargers. Having our products selected by the premier retailer in the world validates the consumer benefits of our innovative solar products and gives us a powerful distribution channel to raise consumer awareness and drive revenue growth,” said Sass Peress, ICP Solar chairman and chief executive officer.
“This line expansion continues to build on the success that our CL-300 solar charger is having in over 2000 Wal-Mart stores across North America,” Tom Clark, ICP Solar’s VP of Sales-Americas. “Our portfolio of products that bring solar into consumers’ homes and lifestyle resonates with retailers whose customers look for the combination of features and value that our line of Coleman® chargers provides. We look forward to continuing to grow this relationship as we continue to provide customers with clean-energy alternatives.”
This is great news for other solar products trying to get into mainstream distribution, as more and more big name stores start to notice the market for such things. It’s nice to see Walmart pushing a few solar products, being one of the bigger store chains.
It would be nicer to see more solar products aimed more to the general consumer though, since these are targeted more at RV owners and campers, but still a very good start. Once people can scope out a wide range of solar power based products (be it gadgets, chargers, full solar kits for their homes, etc) then I imagine the use of that technology in the general population will start to skyrocket. It’s still far too much work from the consumers perspective to research what is out there, and find a good company to buy from, especially since so many are sold almost exclusively online. Once Home Depot, Walmart, etc have a serious “Solar” section, instead of a few random products that most people can’t use, things will really get interesting.
