Upcoming Event, ‘Sun and Sense’ Conference

From the Eurosolar site…

The European Charter “Solar Energy in Architecture and Urban Planning” was formulated at the conference in Berlin in 1996 under the auspices of Thomas Herzog. In 1998, Eurosolar organized the 5th conference “Building a new century” and in 2000 the 6th conference “The City – A Solar Power Station” with more than 700 participants which marked the departure towards a solar age of building.

Eurosolar is back at it with it’s newest conference about Solar Energy in Architecture and Urban Planning and it looks like it’s going to be a good one.

The conference, called “Sun and Sense”, starts tomorrow(the 11th) in Berlin, Germany, and has a nice big pile of organizations and businesses involved, with the focus being on the issues around incorporating solar energy into buildings and homes.

The conference is going to cover such topics as…

  • The building as solar power station – Solar architecture/Architectural integration of Renewable Energy technology
  • Urban development and settlement models
  • Urban mobility with Renewable Energies
  • City-region relations, embedding cities into the context of their local resources
  • 100% Renewable Energy scenarios and projects on building, settlement, urban, and regional level
  • The use of Renewable Energies in mega-cities of developing countries and newly industrializing countries

A detailed agenda can be found here on the Eurosolar site.

It’s been a busy 8 years for solar energy, so it will be interesting to see the sorts of innovations people are coming up with. The list of speakers looks pretty good, but what I’m really excited to see is all the innovative technologies that come out of conferences like this. I’m hoping for some new tech to drool over. And if it’s anything like what came out of the last conference (in 2000), there should be some pretty fun stuff on the horizon.

If nothing else, a conference like this puts people with new ideas in a big room with people who want to invest in new ideas…and that’s a great thing in my book.
