DIY Solar Projects anyone?

Looking around the net for ideas of the sorts of do it yourself solar energy projects people are doing these days I came across Build It Solar. A site specializing in just that. And it’s got something for every type of solar energy use I can think of (and a pile that I wouldn’t have thought of), from heating and cooling (and of course lighting), to cooking, to vehicles.

I haven’t gone through every list of projects yet (there’s a LOT there), so I’m not sure just where I want to start, but for now I’m thinking maybe a solar BBQ or some other solar cooker since the cold weather is finally starting to ease off.  Just what type I want to make is a different story…I haven’t the faintest clue yet. When I do settle on a project you can expect a full step by step guide of what I’m doing though….if only so you know how to avoid failing miserably at whatever it is…

Should be interesting, or the very least entertaining project to obsess over. The last thing I built from scratch was a wooden lamp in Jr High. Not exactly the building sort, but where’s the fun in life if you don’t try new things now and then right?

I’m off to sift through the site and see if I can decide on something to build. I am, of course, up for suggestions. Or even better, horrifically hilarious horror stories of projects gone wrong (or right…though for some reason those stories don’t tend to be as horrifically hilarious). In fact, I’m sure I could track down a little something fun to send a random person who posts their story to the comments. So if you have a story to tell and enjoy random swag and/or gifts of questionable worth, then drop me a comment!
