Would you be more likely to install a solar powered system on your property if you received a rebate of up to five thousand dollars? While that wouldn’t pay for the majority of a decent solar power system, it would get me interested in installing one. It would also help improve the cost of ownership to a level where more people could take advantage of solar power, thus spurring manufacturers to make more panels, and other equipment, and as we all know, the higher the production on a product, the more the price can drop.
I think that it is ridiculous that the governments of the world aren’t moving faster when it comes to spending money on solar technology. They spend money on every other power generation technology and in Canada the government and the power companies spend millions, if not billions on advertising conservation of power. Why not funnel more money towards renewable, sustainable power generation?
One very interesting note in the article I read highlights how many startups are itching for the government to build in a rebate system for setting up solar power, as it would help fuel their businesses. The companies made promises in relation to new jobs, growth, and development if the San Francisco government would approve the incentives.
So not only would solar technology benefit us with clean energy, but also with new jobs. Sounds like a good thing to me.
The hold up seems to be political in nature, as they try to further define how this rebate money will be collected, distributed and tracked, but hopefully we will hear some good news soon, and this will slowly start a trend in the USA, and eventually Canada.
